Rollback 15 years and skincare products that contained Glycolic Acid were medical-grade lotions of mystery that could only usually only be found in niche skin clinics or dermatology officed, these days these shelves of your favourite pharmacy are brimming with product promoting the wonders of Glycolic. As it's here to stay it's time to understand what it is and what it actually does.

So what is it?

Glycolic is an AHA or Alpha-Hydroxy Acid that's derived from raw sugar cane. In a similar way to other chemical exfoliation products, such as lactic or citric acid, it gently removes the dead outermost layers of the skin (Stratum Corneum). Its low molecular weight is unique and makes it easier to penetrate the skin making it more effective than other forms of exfoliation.

What does it do?

This wonder ingredient is a multi-tasker and has many benefits for the skin.

  • Purely by removing the dead, dull cells from the surface of the skin it gives a more radiant complexion, allowing more light to reflect.
  • It provides a super deep clean and clears out clogged pores that can lead to blackheads and spots.
  • It gets down where it needs to in order to stimulate fibroblasts in the dermis, producing increased amounts of collagen to firm skin and tackle fine lines or wrinkles.

Is it good for me?

Glycolic-based products are great for normal, combination and oily skin types. This hard-working ingredient is an all-rounder that targets wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, and breakouts, so if one or more of these is a skincare concern of yours, it's time to try a Glycolic product.

Convinced? Time to picking a product...

There's a lot of products available over the counter these days that contain Glycolic Acid, so how do you pick? Look at the percentage of acid contained in the product, like most things you get what you pay for, if it contains 4% Glycolic then it's not going to give as good a result one that has a higher percentage. You'll weaker percentages of Glycolic in products that are intended to be left on the skin (creams/lotions) than you will in cleansers that are neutralised when you cleanse

Our Glycolic cleanser contains 12% Glycolic Acid to ensures the product can penetrate deep down where it needs to in order to deliver noticeable results.

It also allows the skin to get used to the ingredient as opposed to diving straight in with products that's left on the skin for a longer period, great if you're unsure about your skin tolerating a new product.

How should I use it?

Use our Glycolic Cleanser daily for optimum results or 3-4 times per week if you find every day a little too much. The new pump bottles are a whopping 50% bigger than our standard "retail" sizes giving you more value for money.

As well as 12% Glycolic Acid our cleanser also contains:

Panthenol to protect and heal the skin from the effects of daily stress. A naturally occurring active ingredient it accelerates the healing process of the skin.
