HOW TO : AVOID CHAPPED LIPS THIS WINTER
When Winter hits one of the first places we notice a difference is in our lips. Cold weather, wind and heating can result in dry, chapped lips. Here's the Flint + Flint guide to flake-free lips this Winter...
Fist and foremost, Drink lots of water. Hydrating from the inside will help keep your lips from getting dry.
For chapped and sore lips try thin slices of cucumber applied over lips and leave for 5-6 minutes. Cucumber can help rehydrate lips and they'll feel lovely and fresh afterwards.
Apply a slick of Flint + Flint Lip Hero before you wash your face. If your lips are dry and chapped, cleansers could be stripping moisture and drying out your lips out even more.
Wrap a nice chunky knitted scarf around your neck, chin and mouth when out and about this Winter. The wind is your lips enemy number one at this time of year.
Re-apply Flint + Flint Lip Hero before bed to let it work its magic while you sleep. This replenishing balm is packed with natural peptides, which are proven to stimulate collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, in particular our favourite ... Hyaluronic Acid. It delivers restructuring and moisturising properties, re-densifying the connective tissue. Not only this but our Lip Hero contains active ingredient Baobab Oil, Famous for its huge size and longevity, the Baobab Tree can reach over 12m in diameter and the oldest living tree is thought to be over 6000 years old. Strongly moisturising, the oil contains almost equal measures of palmitic, oleic and linoleic acids, as well as vitamins A, D and E.
There's no harm in smearing some of your favourite moisturiser over lips each morning when hydrating the rest of your skin. Our Moisturiser 3x has three times the nourishing and hydrating properties.
If your lips are chapped, pass on juices and fruits. Orange juice, grapefruit, and other strong citrus fruits or juices will only make your lips worse!
Turn on a humidifier at night—it helps keep both your skin and your lips hydrated. Double bonus. Having a humidifier in the bedroom at night whilst you sleep has many benefits, not only for skin but for your general health. This one's an experts secret weapon!
Ditch the salty snacks (we know, easier said than done). Salt dehydrates lips and so munching away on a tube of Pringles or a bowl of cashew's will unfortunately not help your lips return to their former silky smooth self.
Try not to lick your lips. Its a natural response to lick our dry lips to add some moisture, but it actually dries them out even more. Your saliva contains acids that break down food, but they also irritate your lips. Plus, continuously licking will remove any natural oils you have on your lips.
