TRIED AND TESTED: THE SENTINEL REVIEW FLINT PLUS FLINT

We're proud of our what we do and we believe we have a fantastic skincare range but theres only one problem with blowing your own trumpet...... not many people believe you. So we set out to get others who know a thing or two about skin and beauty to try and test the hell out of our range to prove they do what they claim to - actually work!

First up was Mary-Ann Astle, beauty addict and journalist for The Sentinel, Stoke. Read on to see what she thought.....

The entrepreneurs behind the Skin Health Spa clinics have launched their own range of skincare products. Mary-ann Astle took a look at the whole range to see how it measured up…

The range from Flint Plus Flint may be new but it came with a lot of expectations – it’s been developed by the team behind Skin Health Spa which has been at the forefront of skin treatment since 1999.

Skin Health Spa has five clinics across the country and I’ve been attending their Nantwich clinic, in Welsh Road, on a very regular basis since its doors opened in 2011. So when I heard they’d developed their own product line I couldn’t wait to try it out.

From the off, it sounded promising, with Adam and Maxine Flint saying their ethos was “it must be simple, not crazily priced, have quality active ingredients, be easy to use and it really must work.”

After months of searching for the best ingredients and manufacturers worldwide they found just what they needed on their doorstep and the range is made, designed and packaged in England.

Firstly, top marks for the packaging – it looks good but not so extravagant that you develop a sneaking suspicion that you’re paying for the product – and not you – to look pretty.

There are nine products which vary from between £12 and £48 and they offer a complete range of solutions for moisturising, cleansing and protecting any skin type. So, what’s the verdict?

Everyday Wash (100ml, £27)

This daily face and neck deep cleanser is a little gem. It has a low level of glycolic acid (two per cent) that helps to gradually remove dead skin cells on the surface of the skin and is beneficial for anti-ageing, pigmentation, sun or age spots and to relieve congestion such as blackheads or clogged pores.

It also includes Moringa Oil which is an excellent natural cleanser, lifting dirt and grime from the skin.

Suitable for all skin types, it’s gentle yet effective.

Glycolic Cleanser (100ml, £30)

If you take your skincare seriously then this is a must. This face and neck cleanser contains 12 per cent glycolic acid as well as Bisabolol, which protects and heals the skin from the effects of daily stress, and Defensil, a skin conditioning agent that normalises sensitive skin by soothing irritated, inflamed and red areas.

With this cleanser a little goes a long way and through regular use your skin will feel brightened and renewed.

Serum (50ml, £48)

A great product this nourishing and repairing serum can be used under moisturiser for all skin types. Ingredients include Atoligomer, stimulates the vitality of skin cells, reinforcing vitality of the skin, and Borage oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids and one of the most prolific sources of Omega 6 – vital in the production of the body’s regulatory hormones and shown to be effective in the treatment of dry and damaged skin.

The Moisturiser (50ml, £32)

Again less is more with this moisturiser, which is hydrating and protecting and suitable for daily use on all skin types. It also contains Glycofilm, which forms a protective second skin providing the skin with a natural face shield, preventing attack from free radicals and environmental damage throughout the day. It feels light on your skin and doesn’t clog your pores.

The Moisturiser 3x -(50ml, £42)

This triple action nourishing moisturiser, shown in clinical studies to increase skin firmness and elasticity, is suitable for daily use on all skin types. It’s packed full of ingredients, including Retinyl Palmitate, which increases cell production making skin look younger, smoother and reducing sun damage pigmentation.

SPF 30 Primer (50ml, £25)

Whatever the weather is like outside you always need a good defensive primer for protection against harmful UVA, UVB and UV rays.

This primer is one of the best I’ve come across – giving you good protection without leaving your skin feeling heavy or full of product. It contains ingredients which help lessen inflammation, improve hydration and limit wrinkle formation. It also has a dose of Mongongo oil, which reacts rapidly with UV light to form a protective layer for the skin. The high amounts of vitamin E provide excellent antioxidant properties.

Exfoliator 2x (75ml, £30)

A double action skin polishing exfoliator for all skin types containing salicylic acid, Jojoba oil and micro scrub particles. It gives a good cleaning without feeling harsh.

Eye Hero (15ml, £37)

A brightening, smoothing cream for eyes and deep wrinkles containing active ingredients to reduce puffy eyes and combat wrinkles, dark circles and bags and, for the first time, by lifting the upper eyelids, reducing the signs of fatigue.

Lip Hero (15ml, £12)

One of my favourite products from the range, the Lip Hero is a smoothing, replenishing and hydrating balm. It contains ingredients which help stimulate collagen in the lips and through regular use it’ll leave your lips with a naturally, fuller look.
